A Family Session at Glenwood Gardens

Strong, fast, steady, and disciplined. Two wise young men stood in front of me. One towering over me with great stature and poise. The other mimics after his brother, as he is one great example to follow. These two wise young men who stood in front were filled with ambition and grit. Before I could utter a word, the youngest told me they were running track this season. Their eyes illuminated as they exclaimed their excitement for running track, for competing, for making their mother proud. As they explained their process for running track, their mother and I reminisced on the days in which we were in their shoes. Running for a cause but also joy and sheer cheerfulness. The thought of running track brought back the feelings of freedom, peace, and happiness. I hope they enjoy running track as much as their mother and I once did.

This Saturday evening was cool and cloudy, but our conversation soon overtook the colder elements. The cherry blossoms were a beautiful addition to this session, as they seemed to bring a softness and warmth to our time together. Cherry blossoms are a wonderful symbolic flower of the spring, a time of renewal, and the fleeting nature of life. As I think about life and how quickly it moves, I cannot help but think about this family and their love for one another. This kind of steadfast love is what I hope for all families to have.

Danielle, Brylen, and Noah,

Thank you for allowing me to capture memories that you will look back on and cherish forever. I am proud to be considered a friend and a sister in Christ. May your dreams feel tangible, and goals feel achievable. Continue to run fast! “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”1 Corinthians 9:24.

With love,

Iesha
